Volunteer Opportunities

JFS DESERT BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Community members in California’s Coachella Valley are recruited to serve on the Board of Directors. Board members serve an initial one-year term; followed by two-year terms if re-elected. Board meetings are held nine to ten times a year, and members are expected to serve on at least one committee.

JFS DESERT AUXILIARY
The JFS Desert Auxiliary is a vital group of dedicated volunteers who support the mission of JFS Desert through a variety of planned activities and fundraising events.  Proceeds from their events benefit JFS Desert community programs including, holiday gift-giving, camp scholarships and emergency assistance.  If you would like to meet others who share your values of Tzedakah (giving back) through planned activities, please consider becoming part of the JFS Desert Auxiliary.

LET’S DO LUNCH!
The Let’s Do Lunch! program is designed to decrease isolation and increase mental stimulation by providing seniors with free lunch and activities outside their home.  Programs are provided at senior centers and senior apartment complexes and are designed to encourage interaction with other participants to increase socialization. Volunteers are needed to help at various program sites.

CASE AIDES
Volunteer aides assist the case management team with client intakes, dissemination of referrals and resources to clients in need. This is an opportunity for those with computer skills, including data entry and client record creation.

OFFICE AIDES
Volunteer office aides work a minimum of four hours a week at our location in Palm Springs, CA.  While tasks vary based on the skills of the volunteer, they tend to include appointment reminder calls to clients, answering the telephone, filing, organizing client records and data entry for those with computer skills.

A FRIENDLY VISITOR
Make a connection with isolated older adults on a regular basis by visiting two or three times a month. Time spent together may be in playing cards, watching TV or taking the senior out for an errand or lunch. This volunteer may be the only person the senior will see all week other than caregivers.

TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM – JFS EXPRESS
JFS Desert is always on the lookout for drivers. Volunteers are needed to drive seniors who do not have transportation to much needed medical appointments wait for them and return them home. Such a simple act for a senior can really be life saving.
