Auxiliary COVID-19 Giving Circle
As members of the Auxiliary of the Jewish Family Service (JFS) of the Desert, we are heartbroken to see how the pandemic has devastated so many families in our community; families who are now in danger of being evicted from their homes, who can’t pay their utility bills, who’ve lost their jobs and don’t have enough money to adequately feed their children or buy their medicine. Their situations are so dire that we’ve been trying to find ways in which we can lend support where it’s most needed, and we think we have found a way. We hope you will join us in our efforts.
In this spirit, we are forming the “COVID Giving Circle”, a two-pronged solution. The first component of our program establishes an emergency fund that addresses the urgent financial needs of struggling families such as paying utility bills, car insurance, or rent. JFS would evaluate the many requests for aid and determine the distribution.
The second component of the “Giving Circle” would be the “adoption” of six families. We would provide them monies or gift cards three times a year—at the beginning of the school year, for the holidays, and in the summer when expenses increase. One family is being held together by a grandmother trying to care for her four grandchildren. In some families, the breadwinners lost their jobs months ago; in others, the parents themselves are victims of COVID.
Please find it in your hearts to join us at any level. We can make an enormous difference in the lives of many.
