Donation Refund Policy

Jewish Family Service of the Desert (JFS) is a nonsectarian provider of low- to no-cost social services to Coachella Valley residents that accepts philanthropic gifts and, in some cases, is required to collect payment from clients for services rendered.

Donation Refund Policy

JFS is extraordinarily grateful for the many philanthropic gifts received annually. Refunds for philanthropic gifts are available within 30 days of receipt of the donation by making a request in writing and sending that to “[email protected].” If one is unable to send an email, a written request for refund should be mailed to:

Requests for donation refunds should include the following information:
– Donor name
– Payment method utilized
– Date of donation

Any requests for a refund of a philanthropic gift received after 30 days after receipt of gift may not be honored. If the donor has filed a tax return claiming a charitable deduction for the refunded gift, the donor is responsible for contacting their tax advisor to determine if their tax return needs to be amended.

Payment Refund Policy

In some cases, JFS utilizes client insurance to help pay for counseling sessions. Most often, insurance requires the collection of a co-payment or similar payment from the client. JFS works diligently to ensure appropriate insurance authorizations and information gathering prior to any counseling session. In the case where JFS charges and collects a greater amount of money from the client than was due and JFS is aware of the error, an appropriate refund will be issued to the client’s credit card used for the payment, and electronic notice of the credit will be sent to the client within 5 business days of issuing the refund.

Requests for refunds for insurance co-payments (or similar payments) made by the client must be made within 60 days of the inappropriate charge by sending a message to “[email protected]” that includes the following information:
– Client name and date of birth
– Insurance used (if applicable)
– A brief description of the disputed charge

Donor Privacy Policy

Jewish Family Service of the Desert (JFS) respects the privacy of all its donors. We believe in safeguarding personal information and ensuring that donor privacy is protected. We do not sell or share donor information. Your name, email address, and any other personal information you provide will be used only by JFS to keep you informed of our activities, including our programs, special events, and funding needs.

Information Collected

Here are the types of donor information that we collect and maintain:

Contact information: name, organization/company (if applicable), complete address, phone number(s), and email address.
Payment information: credit card number and expiration date, and billing information needed to complete transactions. (We comply with PCI-Data Security Standards and do not retain credit card information of donors or any individuals providing payment for services to JFS.)
Gift designation information by program, fund, or event, as provided by the donor at the time of the gift.
Contact information: complete mailing address of third parties honored by gifts made in tribute or acknowledgment of gifts made in memoriam by notice of the donor.
Information you have shared, such as general feedback, comments, or questions.
Requests to receive periodic updates via our online e-newsletters or through printed JFS or JFS programs’ publications and newsletters.

The use of donor information is limited to the above and to the internal purposes of Jewish Family Service of the Desert for furthering the stated mission and programs of the agency. Specifically, we use donor information to help donors complete a secure donation transaction and to provide communication and updates on JFS programs.

We publish donor names to recognize donor support. We honor requests for donors who prefer to give anonymously and safeguard preferences for anonymity as part of stored donor contact information.

We regularly recognize donors and donor levels in various media with either your name or photograph. If you do not wish to be recognized, please let us know, and we will respect your privacy.

JFS’ Commitment to Donor Privacy: Both Online and Offline

JFS will not sell, rent, or lease your personal information to other organizations. This includes your email address, physical addresses, and phone numbers.
On rare occasions, JFS may share a donor’s email address to partner organizations, but only upon the condition that the donor has given JFS specific permission to do so.
Personal donor information maintained in a secured database and only authorized personnel have access to this information and only for appropriate business purposes.
Credit card numbers submitted to process gifts or transactions are not retained by JFS.

Authorized Release of Information

JFS may be legally required to disclose information on occasion. JFS complies with all applicable legal requirements and standards.
